Welcome to the Cultures Jazz website! Our association's mission is to promote and enhance the richness of jazz in all its forms: dissemination, structuring, support for artists, educational activities and creation. We want to introduce this exciting music to a wide audience and support the local, national and international jazz scene.
Editorial: The Inadequacy of Public Policies for Jazz and Related Music Artists In a constantly evolving cultural landscape, it is imperative to examine the state's respect for its original commitments to artists, particularly those working in the field of jazz and related music. These artists, true creators of cultural wealth, are today faced with a blatant lack of respect from local public policies. Public funds, which are supposed to support the creation and dissemination of this music, are often unequally distributed. Festival programming, far from fostering artistic diversity, seems to favor close ties with certain productions, labels, and artists, leaving aside a multitude of deserving talents. This situation creates an ecosystem where musical industrialization has hijacked the initial objectives, subjecting artistic choices to an implacable market law. Instead of being recognized for their talent and creativity, artists are reduced to mere commodities, elements in a value chain that respect neither cultural diversity nor fundamental cultural rights. This reality is all the more worrying given that large organizations, often exempt from their tax obligations, continue to thrive at the expense of true equity. The mix of private and public funding, which should be a lever to ensure a fair distribution of resources, is too often marred by questionable practices. Contract award and tender rules, essential to ensuring transparency and fairness, are often ignored, giving way to arbitrary decisions that harm the vitality of our musical landscape. It is time to react. State mechanisms must be revised to ensure they meet their obligations. Jazz and related music artists deserve support that is commensurate with their contribution to our cultural heritage. It is essential to restore balance, to give artists their rightful place, and to ensure that public policies truly serve cultural diversity. Together, let us commit to defending a rich and varied culture, where every artist, regardless of their background, can flourish and contribute to the enrichment of our society. This is an issue that goes beyond the purely artistic: it is about defending our cultural rights and guaranteeing a future where creativity is celebrated and supported.
